Is there a way to buy a patent?

I developed a patent idea with my partner who was the one who actually filed the patent. We had a falling out and no longer want to work together on the patent. Can I buy the patent from him? He is saying that this would be ok to do. Do we have to go through a patent lawyer?

You two can agree to do anything you like. That agreement must be put into writing as an enforceable contract. If you cant do that yourself, then hire an attorney to do so. Feel free to contact me if serious about doing so.

Patents are assignable just like real property. You should contact an attorney who can help you with this process.
