If I submit my story to a contest do I lose my rights?

An online magazine that I frequent is running a writing contest. I want to submit one of my short stories to the contest. I am worried about the copyright implications though. I obviously want to retain the rights to my story. Will they become the owners if I submit the story to them?

Generally, yes. Read the rules and you will likely find that submission transfers some or all rights. You do not wish to transfer your rights, do not submit your story.
