To find out if your idea has a reasonable chance for patentability, a search and evaluation will cost $500-$1000. To prepare and file an application for patent, expect to pay $3000 to $12,000, and most typically about $4000-$7000. The examination of the application to issuance of a patent can cost as little as about $1000 (allowed on the first action) to $5000 or more.

I would suggest contacting an attorney to discuss your idea. Generally, ideas are not patentable, only inventions. You may have an invention, I don't know. The cost is generally dependent on the amount of work necessary to protect the invention and is also based on the type of patent. Good Luck.

The cost for applying for a patent varies based on the size of the law firm, how busy the attorney is, and what specifically you are seeking to patent, among other factors. Provisional patent applications typically cost much less than full utility patent applications. My firm currently offers a basic provisional patent application starting at $500, and an enhanced provisional patent application for $995 (plus filing fees). My firm also prepares utility patent applications for flat fees.

It depends on the area of art and complexity of the invention. The range is from roughly $8,000 tho there are practitioners who charge less. Do a Google search for patent attorney.
