New Expedited Patent Process Proposed

Published on 06/24/2010

Share |
US Patent and Trademark Office Chief David Kappos has proposed a new patent application process that could allow inventors to pay for expedited review of their patents. However, the amount of money that patent seekers would have to pay on top of the existing $1,090 filing fee is unknown.

The new process could greatly help those who need patents reviewed more quickly than the average 34.6 month period that it took last year. This expedited option would be part of a proposed three track system that could go into effect as early as next year.

This system would create a cheap track that would take up to 30 months for review, a middle track that would be similar to current review costs and times, as well as the more expensive expedited track.
