Apple Broadens Lawsuit against HTC over iPhone Patents

Published on 06/24/2010

Share |
Apple has broadened its lawsuit accusing cell phone maker HTC of infringing on iPhone patents. Apple originally accused HTC of infringing on 20 patents relating to the user interface, hardware, and software design of the iPhone.

Now Apple is alleging that the Taiwanese cell phone company infringed on 2 additional iPhone patents.

As outlined in their lawsuit, which was filed in the US District Court of Delaware, Apple is seeking a permanent injunction that would completely prevent HTC from selling their products in the United States.

In addition to filing their lawsuit, Apple has also filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission which regulates imports to the US and seeks to prevent unfair trade practices, including patent, trademark, and copyright infringement.

Interestingly, Apple has not named Google or Microsoft as co-defendants even though the twelve specific phones that Apple is targeting use either Google Android or Windows Mobile operating systems. HTC is countersuing Apple.
